If we’re bringing our own tubes, can we just pay for the shuttle Bus? Or get in on our own somewhere? And where do we get off?

I did see people with their own tubes, but my guess is that they charge $20 a person either way, but it's worth it, the road is narrow, dirt and bumpy. I did see a ton of people parked with their own vehicles and I'm guessing they were just hanging out at the river all day with their pop up tents. If you drive yourself and float down the river for 3 - 5 miles you'd need to get a ride back to your car. The shuttle drives 3-5 miles up the river and after your float you end up at a boat ramp right down the way from where you originally parked.
How did you find where to enter the river? We are looking to go on our own as the tubing company is booked. Thanks for any help you can give.Toby
A:
You enter at the city park next to the prison and float down to the boat launch. You pass under two bridges and then come to the paved boat launch on the left side of the river bank
wondering about the terrain around the start and exit points?? Is it relatively easy entry and exit points or is it surrounded by long or steep dirt or uneven paths? Have an older family member that has a little trouble walking uphill or difficult terrain and want to know ahead of time if she would be able.
A:
There is a bit of a slope getting in and out of the water (similar to the beach on the way in and a cement terrain on your way out.)
I didn't have a "buggy" experience when we floated the river in July. It was more about keeping sun screen on exposed face and neck.....enjoy your trip.
