"Star Trek: Lower Decks" has become one of the brightest lights in the franchise's constellation over the past five years and its final 10-episode season launches today, Oct. 24, on Paramount+ with a double-episode debut.

Previous seasons of Lower Decks featured the likes of Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, John de Lancie as Q, Nana Visitor as Kira Nerys, and Armin Shimerman as Quark, among others. "There might be other cameos. Who knows?" Newsome says, playfully, of season 5. In other words, there will be others.

The first half of Lower Decks' fifth and final season finds itself united by reminders of the show's most fundamental theme: all of its kooky heroes being able to just sit down and communicate with each other.
