Two Americans have been freed in a prisoner swap between the U.S. and Afghanistan’s Taliban in exchange for a Taliban figure, officials said Tuesday.

The Taliban's Foreign Ministry in Kabul did not name the two U.S. citizens, but said they were exchanged for Khan Muhammad, who was arrested in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar two decades ago and has been serving a life sentence in a California prison.

An Afghan prisoner serving a life sentence in the U.S. is freed in exchange for two Americans, Ryan Corbett and William McKenty. The exchange, facilitated by Qatar, took place in the final hours of the Biden administration.
