The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears are expected to interview Ron Rivera for their open head coaching position, according to NFL sources. Rivera, 63, played nine seasons at linebacker for the Bears from 1984-92 and was a member of the famed defense that propelled the team to the Super Bowl XX title in the 1985 season.

Washington made the playoffs during Rivera’s first year as head coach as the team clinched the NFC East despite a 7-9 record. They had a home playoff game, but lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23 in the Wild Card round.

After a 5-12, last-place season that included 10 consecutive losses and the in-season firings of coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, the Chicago Bears are now embarking on a search to hire the franchise’s next head coach.

For some of those teams, that will involve finding new head coaches and/or General Managers. Three teams fired their head coaches during the season and two more have been dispatched as of 9 a.m. ET on January 6.
