The bill was introduced last year after a state senator found that a student in his district was allowed to stay in class after sexually assaulting another student.

Senate Bill 98 would require that students who commit a sexual assault in schools be expelled for at least one year.

A sexual assault involving school kids in a small central Illinois community has prompted an Illinois lawmaker to take action. State Sen. Steve McClure, R-Springfield, said he was shocked to find out that the student who committed the sexual assault was allowed to stay in class.
