It was widely understood that the Denver Broncos were not legitimate competition for the Buffalo Bills. Led by the cyborg known as Josh Allen, this year’s possible MVP winner, Buffalo is a seasoned fixture of postseason experience. It is a mainstay of the greater Super Bowl contender conversation.

The Bills’ first-round win over the Broncos set up an MVP showdown between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, the game that “everyone’s been waiting for.”

Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen won’t decide the NFL MVP next week. The stakes are higher with a spot in the AFC championship game on the line. Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (13-5) will visit Allen and the Buffalo Bills (14-4) in the divisional round while Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (15-2) will host C.

In the cases of both MVP candidates, next week’s divisional round game is not only massive in the obvious sense, but for the prism in which they’re viewed.

There haven’t been many more compelling divisional round matchups than what we’ll get in Buffalo next week after the Bills easily dispatched Denver.

With the win, Allen and the Bills will host Jackson and the Ravens in the Divisional Round for a spot in the AFC Championship Game. This may be the most intriguing matchup of the quarterfinals, with the top two MVP candidates going head-to-head.

For the third time in his career, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback earned AP First-Team All-Pro honors. In 2019 and '23, Jackson followed that up by taking home the MVP. Barring something unforeseen, he's on track to win his third Most Valuable Player award, beating out Allen, who is still looking for his first MVP.
