Mooresville is one of the oldest incorporated towns in Alabama, having been incorporated on November 16, 1818, when Alabama was still a Territory. It was named for early settlers, Robert and William Moore who located on land which became the site of Mooresville.

The town of Mooresville is honored to be home to four distinctly historic buildings. The circa 1821 Stagecoach Tavern, reportedly the oldest frame public building in the state of Alabama. The circa 1839 Brick Church, a distinctively elegant Greek Revival building.

Mooresville’s history began in 1805 when the first settlers arrived in the area and set up homesteads on lands occupied by the Chickasaw Indians. The Indians later ceded the land to the Federal Government and public land sales began in 1816.
