Punnathurkotta is a fort and former palace located in Kottapadi, about 3 km from the Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple, in Thrissur District of Kerala State in South India. [1]

Thechikkottukavu Ramachandran (born c. 1964) is an Indian elephant owned by Thechikottukavu devasom, a temple in Kerala. [1] Commonly known as simply Raman, he is the tallest living captive elephant in Asia, standing at 314 cm (10 ft 3 + 1 ⁄ 2 in). [2] They gave Ramachandran the title Ekachatradhipathi (transl. The Only Emperor). [3]

With its sprawling 11.5 acres of land which is surrounded by green foliage all around, the exquisite Punnathur Kotta is the best example to depict the reason why Kerala is known as the 'Land of Elephants'. The jumbo elephants are the prime attractions of the place with around 60 of them kept here and taken care of.

Every year prior to Guruvayoor ekadasi, on Navami day, all elephants (60 odd) in the elephant sanctuary take a procession to the life size statue of Kesavan at Sreevalasm compound, pays their homage to the departed leader. Another rare and unique sight.
